Lessons In Leadership…from a 6-year old - Part 2

Lesson 1: “Sacrifice is Greater than Success”

At six years old I was picking up beer bottles and cans to exchange for money to exchange for candy. (How did this happen?? Please read Part 1.)

I became tired after working for about 3 minutes. Additionally: As a kid, beer bottles smelled terrible, especially in the warm summer weather of Philadelphia. I began to miss what I loved only second to candy…my cartoons. I wondered if the Thundercats beat Mumm-Ra, or if GI Joe was in trouble, or if Optimus Prime was battling the Decepticons…?

But then I remembered: Trash=Cash=Candy. If I wanted to obtain the candy, I had to finish. To finish meant temporarily sacrificing my Saturday morning cartoons. Moreover, I knew my older sisters would finish and would taunt me with the money they earned for candy - I couldn’t turn back.
